Ditched the PC and want to learn Mac tricks? A dog can learn new tricks! I did.

Siri, Siri… you say the darnest things!

Well, Apple’s launched the iPhone 4S and Siri seems to have some wisecracks to share with the world. Perhaps it contains traces of Steve Jobs’ humour that will live on beyond his days. An interesting site has already sprung up, called Shit That Siri Says. It’s quite funny, really. Here are a few that I really like.

Introducing Apple’s Siri

In case you don’t know yet, Miss Siri is Apple’s smart artificial intelligence application that let’s you ask voice questions and get voice replies. You can ask for the weather, send text messages, do math calculations, ask for directions (women, you’ll be glad your men now ask!), and a whole lot more. It’s full potential is yet to be known, but some videos have popped up that show you the potential. Siri even has a sense of humour. If you … Continue reading

Travel app: Power plugs of foreign countries

When traveling, it is always good to know everything about the power plugs used in the destination countries. You will need to know the type of socket and voltage used there, then compare it against your own devices. Not every country uses the same voltage as your home country, and while traveling in the Philippines recently, I was even presented with a home that used BOTH 110V and 220V. Now that’s bizarre. To check the compatible voltage of your devices, … Continue reading

Initial encounter with Final Cut Pro X

Despite the negative reviews, I decided to stick with Apple and know they can only improve their products from hereon. I clicked the “BUY” button in the Mac App Store and spent $299.99 on Final Cut Pro X, heralded by Apple as the next generation of video editing. Within a day, I discovered it’s tough to make the transition if you’re well-versed with the older suites. The timeline is vastly different, and audio+video seem to be linked very tightly. It’ll … Continue reading

Touching speech on life & death by Steve Jobs

Everyone knows Steve Jobs is one of the world’s most gifted persons, not just in product design or marketing, but also in his presentation skills. Just recently, I was able to watch a speech he gave several years ago and it is extremely motivational and inspires everyone to excel and succeed in life. Do spend 15 minutes of your life on this as it is one of those videos worth watching. The best quote from the video is: “Remember to … Continue reading

The 7 types of iPhone owners

I saw this infographic and knew it had to be shared with you. It’s hilarious and probably very, very true. I shudder to share which character I am, lest I be construed as being a weirdo, hacker, nazi. Which are you? Source: submitinfographics.com

iPhone New Year 2011 alarm glitch

Happy New Year and may 2011 be a great year for us all. However, as we place more and more reliance on digital gadgets, there can be bugs that arise and may cause us grief. This morning on the 1st of January 2011, my iPhone 3Gs (iOS4.x) alarm didn’t go off as scheduled and I thought it strange. My wife’s iPhone 3G (OS3.x)  alarm rang, though. I didn’t give it much thought, until I read a status message on Facebook … Continue reading

Using the Windows Phone 7 on a Mac

Adultery! Windows Phone+Mac=SIN Seems like it anyway, but I’m now a Mac convert and have no Windows PCs in my household anymore. As such, I ventured to explore how well the HTC HD7 would perform on a Mac. I was initially wondering how it would sync, considering it typically syncs with Zune software on a PC. The Microsoft website had no reference to syncing with Macs from the Help and How-to sections. How biased! After researching a bit more, there is … Continue reading

iPhone sync error: 13019

I woke up bright and early on this glorious Saturday morning to birds chirping outside my window. Totally glorious… until I plugged in my iPhone for syncing and was thrown a cryptic message by iTunes: The iPhone “TheBackpackr’s iPhone” cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (13019). WHAT ON EARTH IS THAT, STEVE? Anyhow, after searching for awhile, it was evident there was some kind of corrupt playlist, specifically for voice memos. If you delete it, you will be able … Continue reading

Regular SIM card to Micro SIM conversion

Buying an iPhone4, or an iPad? Your existing SIM cards will not fit into these devices. Yes, Steve Jobs is changing the rules. For the uninitiated, here’s some news for you – your existing SIM cards CAN be converted to Micro SIMs easily and without having to pay extra dollars to your local telco. Of course, there are Micro SIM cutters that you can buy, but why bother, if you’re only going to ever cut up one of your SIM … Continue reading
