We travel a lot these days, whether by plane, bus or train and it can get rather boring at times, if we’re not prepared for the long journey. I like to stock up on movies or TV series and transfer them to my iPad / iPhone to watch while on the go. In order to save time transcoding your movie files, get an app like CineXplayer, OPlayer HD or yxplayer. They play most video files natively, thereby saving you a … Continue reading
I travel a fair bit and over time, I’ve learnt to refine the art of packing. First of all, I don’t start packing 2 hours before my plane leaves, nor do I throw a random bunch of clothes into a bag and hope I’ll be okay. I’ve formed a fairly comprehensive list of items to pack, and hope it will help you as the basis for your own list. You can find it on Google Docs here. Or, you can … Continue reading
Spammers oftentimes have harvesting systems to run through thousands of websites, digging up anything that looks like an email address and adding it to their database of “To Spam” or “To Sell”. It annoys the life out of me and the other billions of people on the Internet, I’m sure. How I wish I could add spammers to spam lists of other spammers (perhaps that’s a project for another lifetime). If you run a website or a blog, there are … Continue reading
Many people are hopping onto the Viber bandwagon (read my Viber review) but are rather disappointed by a major bug where the contact list doesn’t get updated in real-time, much like what we expect of WhatsApp. Undoubtedly, they’ve just launched and will definitely fix the bug soon, but till then, here’s some help fo you… The fix for this problem is quite simple and you can go through these steps periodically to update your list. I’ve found that by editing … Continue reading
Adultery! Windows Phone+Mac=SIN Seems like it anyway, but I’m now a Mac convert and have no Windows PCs in my household anymore. As such, I ventured to explore how well the HTC HD7 would perform on a Mac. I was initially wondering how it would sync, considering it typically syncs with Zune software on a PC. The Microsoft website had no reference to syncing with Macs from the Help and How-to sections. How biased! After researching a bit more, there is … Continue reading
I woke up bright and early on this glorious Saturday morning to birds chirping outside my window. Totally glorious… until I plugged in my iPhone for syncing and was thrown a cryptic message by iTunes: The iPhone “TheBackpackr’s iPhone” cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (13019). WHAT ON EARTH IS THAT, STEVE? Anyhow, after searching for awhile, it was evident there was some kind of corrupt playlist, specifically for voice memos. If you delete it, you will be able … Continue reading
Buying an iPhone4, or an iPad? Your existing SIM cards will not fit into these devices. Yes, Steve Jobs is changing the rules. For the uninitiated, here’s some news for you – your existing SIM cards CAN be converted to Micro SIMs easily and without having to pay extra dollars to your local telco. Of course, there are Micro SIM cutters that you can buy, but why bother, if you’re only going to ever cut up one of your SIM … Continue reading
There is no denying that Facebook is one of the hugest things to happen in this century for the online world. Knowing that, it is crucial we harness this knowledge for ourselves to increase traffic to the sites we own. Riding on the “Like” functionality that is spreading like wildfire all over the Internet, here’s an instruction guide on how to get it onto your WordPress blog (if you’re not using WordPress, I’m sorry… but there’s definitely similar guides to … Continue reading
I’ve been working with video for more than a year now and have learnt so much over that period. I really want to thank my wife Grace who runs her video/photography company called Stories for teaching me so much. Now, I teach her stuff too! With all these awesome videos, I want to show them off on our iPhones and iPad. Digging around for the best and optimum video settings to compress to is just a pain. I’ve summarized my … Continue reading
