iMaxi case for your iPad

Need protection for your iPad? Jokes surrounding the name for Apple’s latest device have been floating around since the second Steve Jobs announced the product, but these guys take the pie for making it the jokes a reality.

This iMaxi product with wings is probably slated as a gag that will humiliate that insane Apple fanboy/fangirl in your life who incessantly talks about Apple, Apple, APPLE. It’s fairly cheap to give away as a crazy gift, but I wouldn’t be caught dead with one. If you’re really, really keen on getting ...

Best FREE travel iPhone apps

Right now, I’m traveling the US on a three week tour of the West Coast. Though I brought my trusty MacBook Pro along, I installed a fair number of apps on my iPhone so that I could get to them from my fingertips at any time.
Here’s what I found really handy. (Of course I didn’t install ALL of them! Some are based on findings and recommendations by friends). They’re my unbiased reviews of apps I’ve found. Do feel free to share with others if you have favorite apps of your ...

Helping the homeless via social media

On the street I saw a small girl cold and shivering in a thin dress, with little hope of a decent meal. I became angry and said to God; “Why did you permit this? Why don’t you do something about it?” For a while God said nothing. That night he replied, quite suddenly:
“I certainly did something about it. I made you.”
For many months, I have been silently following a website that is interestingly called InvisiblePeople.tv. It is an interesting play on how humans shun away from looking at something they ...

WhatsApp messaging arrives for the BlackBerry

When the Apple iPhone was first launched, there was no application that allowed inter-iPhone-messaging. Then came Ping! which stirred up the community somewhat, but was not wildly accepted. Then came WhatsApp that was heaps better and received widespread acceptance.
Today, it is hailed as one of the first apps an iPhone user MUST install, as it allows you to message your friends for free. As their tagline goes, “SMS is so 2008″.
However, WhatsApp was limited to just the iPhone and that was rather, errr… limiting? But not anymore. It has now ...

Twitter introduces “Local Trends”

Was on Twitter today, and saw a new blurb pop up announcing Local Trends.

Find out what’s trending in a locality near you… but only if you are from one of these countries or cities. Twitter currently supports:

Here’s a comparison of what is trending worldwide vs what’s trending in different countries.

And if we look at different cities in the United States, some have ...

Malaysia goes viral on Twitter. Thanks #yorais!

You’ve heard the phrase, you cannot create something viral: it just becomes viral. And it’s absolutely true!
On January 16th 2010, the Malaysian Information Communication and Culture minister, Dr Rais Yatim stated the following, which was deemed as rather preposterous. This had the whole Internet up in arms against him, especially on the Twittersphere. Here’s an excerpt on what he said taken from The Star Online:
SEREMBAN: Malaysians, especially Muslims, must avoid being totally immersed in the internet culture, especially Facebook and Twitter, said Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr ...

Pastors, the Internet, social media and boring slides

Today, I was given the opportunity to speak to a small group of pastors and ministries and share with them on “Tools and toys to enhance your ministry”. Having been in church for a good 30 or so years of my life, I’ve experienced heaps and I am sensitive to what engages and what doesn’t. I hear a lot from people who are both creative and non-creative.
As such, I decided to try and help expose the group to the current trends and what tools can be used for God’s glory.

Project 365: Day one photos

It’s encouraging to see so many people contributing towards #Project365, which is all about sharing a photo a day from your surroundings with the world (find out more about it here). Within a day, there were quite a few people who posted up their photos, and these are some of those that I managed to catch from the Twitter stream – I’m sure I missed quite a few, but it’s alright…
Before I show all the photos I dug up, here’s mine (@TheBackpackr). My caption was, “1/1/2010: Grace and I started ...

Step-by-step guide to starting a US based iTunes account

If you’re not from the US and have already started an iTunes account based in your own country, you probably know you’re treated as a second rate iTunes citizen. Some applications, podcasts, etc… are just not allowed simple because we’re not “based in the US of A”. I was really, really annoyed that I couldn’t download the FREE Photoshop App or the Kindle for iPhone and resolved to “fix it somehow”.
Here’s the typical “You’re not American” error that you may encounter. It actually says, “Your account is only valid for ...
