Pastors, the Internet, social media and boring slides

Today, I was given the opportunity to speak to a small group of pastors and ministries and share with them on “Tools and toys to enhance your ministry”. Having been in church for a good 30 or so years of my life, I’ve experienced heaps and I am sensitive to what engages and what doesn’t. As such, I decided to try and help expose the group to the current trends and what tools can be used for God’s glory.

Yasmin Ahmad’s talk at TEDxKL

Slightly over a month has passed since Yasmin Ahmad addressed a crowd of about a hundred at the TEDxKL talk, and today, we mourn her loss. The sudden passing was definitely a shock for many and it just goes to show how frail and fragile life really is.
I was honored to be given the opportunity to record her live, and she even addressed me as “the camera-man“. This clip has not been edited to incorporate footage from another camera we had, due to time constraint. We felt it was timely …

BarCamp KL was an amazing event, with 100s of likeminded individuals crowding together at Inti College, just to bounce off each other’s passion. It was my first time attending a BarCamp and it was a fun-filled day of various activities.
It goes to prove that geeks are cool (most of us anyway…) and we have varied interests. There were sessions on how to Salsa, Espresso appreciation, sharing of holiday experiences, Kufi art and also a little about coding standards. Overall it’s just a gathering to network and meet others. A few …

Sound is half of your production. After the production, if sound is bad, what do you do? Reshoot? You can’t!
Make sure it is set up well at the start. Sounds and visuals are combined to give you the whole experience.

Eric Foo is a fabulously talented self-taught man. He’s achieved so many great things in the realm of production, and humbly says he still needs to learn much.

This week, I’ve taken some time off from work to enhance my skills. I’m attending a Christian media conference, and have signed up for the video stream – I have to improve my skills tremendously! In recent years, I’ve become more of a creative media fanatic – perhaps due to the influence of my wife, Grace who has influenced me in that direction. As such, I do firmly believe in tying in God’s kingdom and creative media – AND, it’s fun!
The conference features Power Up! sessions, which are across all …

I’ll be speaking at the Asia Business Forum in April next year and was given the choice to speak on “Branding using Twitter” or “Adapting business practices to harness interactive technology and stay ahead of changing markets”.
I chose to go with the latter, especially in light of the impending recession. I felt I would be able to address the audience on how to best utilize technology to overcome reductions in marketing budgets.
I was requested to send in some portrait pictures, and I sure didn’t want to send in passport mugshots, …
