Many people are hopping onto the Viber bandwagon (read my Viber review) but are rather disappointed by a major bug where the contact list doesn’t get updated in real-time, much like what we expect of WhatsApp. Undoubtedly, they’ve just launched and will definitely fix the bug soon, but till then, here’s some help fo you…
The fix for this problem is quite simple and you can go through these steps periodically to update your list.
I’ve found that by editing an existing contact’s number or adding a new contact VIA Viber, it will force the app to refresh.
- From the Contacts tab, click on a contact.
- Press the Edit button and make a change to the mobile number (you can change it again right after).
- Click Done.
- Click Contacts, then the Viber button in the top-left corner.
- Your list should now have refreshed with the latest Viber users.

Mind you I tried both, and it still doesnt work. You would think the most important part of an app like this is the ability to draw in other users, yet its not able to do so because of this ridiculous bug. personally Im deleting it, if it dont work, dont use it, lifes to short !

I got two different methods that works.
1) Uninstall and re install
2)For local contacts on your list(same country as yours)if the country code is not saved save it ,i.e +44XXXXXXXX… etc.

Many carriers might be blocking Viber service in some countries.. so i will provide u with a solution that will help ppl to show their contacts in most cases and it worked like a sharm…Simply use a VPN to access viber servers virtually.. and what VPN means is Virtual Protocol Network.For more help about how to install VPN on your device, you may just google VPN for iPhone ( I use HSS – HostSpot Shield VPN). It works perfectly. It is worth to try it..Enjoy
this works (on the viber contact list) – don’t even need to make a change – just press “edit” and then “done” – viber then resyncs

hi! since I bought my S3 and installed viber on it, my phone has only been able to show me two of my contacts in my viber list. no matter how many times I add the “unkown” numbers that write to me.on viber, it refuses to save the contacts. its really annoying, I have ti remember the numbers by heart in order to know who I just recieved a msg from!
ive tried re installing viber several times, I even rebooted my phone and yet stil, the issue remains. I dont understand

Worked like a charm! Thank you very much for posting this “workaround”.
I think the problem is with the carrier that doesn’t allow viber to update any contacts. May way around it was to install viber using ONLY a wifi connection (that means that I switched off celular data and kept only the wifi working). This worked for me and I have now all my contacts updated. I guess that further updates on the contact list are also do-able this same way.
The solution for me that worked is to delete completely the contact from your phone (phone, sim, google account) and then add it again via viber, update contacts and…done
viber is totally junk
they are not taking care this small bug..
100% solution and fixed. Just synchronize all your sim contacts to your phone memory. Viper does not recognized contacts from sim only from phone.
Finaly I found a solution for this problem. Just deactivate your Viber account and activate again.
